On-line resources for
Encountering the Bible
through informed small group discussion
The fact that the Bible is ancient literature, written thousands of years ago, can be challenging for its readers. Many who have had an opportunity to systematically study the Bible, perhaps through a Bible College, have discovered the benefit of not only understanding the background and context to Bible passages but also where they sit within the Bible’s overarching message. This helps in reading the Bible for all it is worth.
Of course not everyone has the opportunity to undertake systematic study. This is the reason for this project – to learn if there is an alternative for the average reader to acquire some of this understanding through a supportive (small) group which has ready access to easily-understood online resources.
The project is based around this website which contains numerous short topics (articles) that provide background to key passages and explain where they sit within the Bible’s overarching message. Some of these topics are systematically arranged to allow people to “drill down” for information as needed and are made available to small group participants prior to meeting so that discussions are more informed. Other online resources, such as the option of video conferencing, are also part of the project.
A focus of groups is to explore selected Bible passages for their message and application for today.
