Given the goal of this project is to assist people to better understand the Bible’s message, it is helpful if everyone is “on the same page” regarding just what the Bible is, its reliability and the way we might go about interpreting it (given it is ancient literature).

The interpretative approach adopted in this project is explained below. Different interpretative approaches or understandings of the Bible are not included in group discussions.

  • There are different views about what kind of book the Bible is and how relevant it is for today. The view that is adopted is that the Bible is a written record of what God has revealed about himself and his plans for humankind ../more.
  • There is a debate amongst many Bible scholars regarding how reliable Scripture is. Is everything written in the Bible true? The view that is adopted is that the Bible is absolutely reliable and its intended message can be relied upon just as if God himself was speaking. All topics and discussions are based on this understanding ../more.
  • When it comes to interpreting Scripture, a good approach is to better understand its message to the original recipients and, once this is understood, apply that message to today ../more.
